Techno Electric & Engineering is strategically positioned to capitalise on opportunities in data centres, AI-driven power demand, smart grids and smart cities

The below speech is given by Padam P. Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Techno Electric & Engineering Company Limited in the annual report for FY 25-26

The Electrical post

India is entering a defining phase of economic transformation. Sustained economic growth, industrial expansion, urbanisation and accelerating digital adoption are reshaping the country's infrastructure priorities. As India advances towards becoming a leading global economy, the need for reliable, resilient and futureready infrastructure has become more critical than ever.

Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd. (TEECL) is one of India’s most important power-infrastructure companies. We are at the top of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), asset ownership and operations and maintenance services in the three industry segments of generation, transmission and distribution. Incorporated in 1963 and headquartered in Kolkata, our operations are spread across India and abroad.

At the centre of this transformation is the power sector, with electricity serving as the foundation of economic progress. Along with that, the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital services is accelerating demand for data centres, which require continuous, reliable and high capacity power. This convergence is creating a new infrastructure paradigm where energy and digital ecosystems are becoming increasingly interconnected.

At Techno Electric, we believe this convergence represents one of the most significant infrastructure opportunities of the coming decade. Our four-decade journey has been guided by identifying emerging opportunities, building specialised capabilities and supporting India's evolving infrastructure needs, from strengthening power generation and transmission systems to enabling grid modernisation and the digital economy

Powering the Energy Transition

India's power sector is at an inflection point as the country accelerates its transition towards achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030. This transformation is driving the need for a stronger, more flexible and resilient power network.

The shift towards renewable energy extends beyond expanding generation capacity to strengthening transmission infrastructure that can efficiently evacuate power from generation centres to demand hubs. As investments in renewable integration and grid modernisation gather pace, our expertise in high-voltage substations, transmission networks, renewable energy integration and distribution infrastructure positions us at the forefront of this transformation.

Our execution track record, including the development of more than 350 substations above 400 kV over the past three decades, reflects our ability to deliver complex infrastructure projects while contributing to a more reliable, resilient and sustainable power network.

Towards a Digital Future

India's digitalisation is transforming the way people and businesses operate. The adoption of digital platforms, artificial intelligence and cloud computing is accelerating data generation and computing requirements. As digital adoption expands, the need for resilient digital infrastructure has become critical.

Central to this digital ecosystem are data centres, providing the computing power, storage and connectivity required to support India's growing economy. Their dependence on uninterrupted power and advanced electrical systems is creating a convergence between energy and digital infrastructure.

Our Integrated Platform

Over the years, Techno Electric has evolved from a pure-play EPC organisation into an integrated infrastructure platform spanning EPC, asset deployment and asset ownership businesses, resulting in a more diversified business portfolio supported by sustained operational growth.

Our EPC business remains the foundation of our capabilities, underpinned by engineering excellence, disciplined execution and longstanding relationships with leading utilities and infrastructure stakeholders. Our asset deployment business supports India's grid expansion and digitalisation through opportunities in transmission and Advanced Metering Infrastructure. Building on these capabilities, we are expanding into smart substations, smart grids and smart city infrastructure.

As an early mover, our recent order for a 132 kV digital substation across four locations in the DVC Grid Command area is one of the most advanced projects of its kind in India. Our asset holding business creates strategic digital infrastructure assets, enabling long-term growth beyond project execution.

Our Execution Excellence

FY 2025-26 was a year of strong performance and strategic execution for us. Building on our engineering expertise and expanding our presence, we strengthened our capabilities, driving higher scale, revenue and profitability.

The year was marked by robust financial performance, with total revenue increasing to INR 32,525 million, reflecting a growth of 35.42% YoY. Our EBITDA stood at INR 4,475 million, registering a growth of 36.44%, with EBITDA margin remaining strong at 13.76%. Profit after Tax increased by 26.59% to INR 5,419 million, while our order book remained robust at INR 95,665 million, providing strong visibility for future growth.

This performance was underpinned by continuous progress across our business platforms, driven by execution capabilities, specialised talent, organisational knowledge and supply-chain resilience. Our EPC business solidified its position as a trusted infrastructure partner through the execution of transmission, distribution and power infrastructure projects.

The next decade will be defined by infrastructure that is larger in scale, smarter in operation and more sustainable in design. As India transitions towards cleaner energy systems and a digitally enabled economy, Techno Electric is well positioned to contribute to this transformation.

Our priorities remain focused on growing our core businesses, expanding our presence in emerging infrastructure segments and creating long-term value through disciplined, knowledge-led growth. We are strategically positioned to capitalise on opportunities in data centres, AI-driven power demand, smart grids and smart cities, leveraging our engineering heritage and execution capabilities to power India's future and create lasting stakeholder value.
